Goodnight, Moon

Have you ever uttered the phrase "I love you to the moon and back!" Shook yer fist at someone and hollered "Pow! Right to the moon!" Obsessively listened to Mancini's Moon River? Well then you might like this. Alot. A couple of years ago  Russian designer Leonid Tishkov and photographer Boris Bendikov created a series of wonderfully dreamy photographs they called "Your Personal Moon." These images are so achingly pretty I just get a little lost staring at them. I don't think you can actually purchase a moon of your own, but how amazing would that be?

Tiny Treasures

I totally remember the first 45 record I had:  "Dancing Queen" by those satin loving Swedes, ABBA.  I'd fire up my little record player and hop around to the awesome disco goodness (yes I was in my bedroom...no, I didn't sing into my hair brush) . I eventually accumulated quite the little stash of 45 records and even though I was only seven, I remember feeling like a massively cool teenager spinnin' my hot tunes. (Oh wow, I was just reminded that when I had my First Communion, my neighbor Cheryl Hazel gave me a copy of the awesomely inappropriate record Afternoon Delight as a present...but that's another story.)

Like most folks who remember the good ol days, I have a huge fondness for vinyl. But I have to say that 45s in particular hold an extra special place in my heart. Apparently Kavel Rafferty agrees because she has put together an amazzzzzzing collection of 45 record sleeve art. So nifty! Take a gander:

Paper Cut.

HAPPY MONDAY! So I was zipping around the web this weekend (in my Fiat Jolly of course) and found so many amazing things. I don't know if I was hiding under a rock, but I only just recently discovered the crazy cool work of Elsa Mora.  Not only does she do the most insanely intricate and delightful papercuts, she does adorable illustrations too.

Her blog, "The Heart of Papercuts," is totally inspiring. But look how sweet these illustrations are too. Be sure to swing by her blog, because she is giving away one of her gorgeous Alice in Wonderland papercuts (but don't swing by until you finish reading this, of course! heh).

Seeing her work reminded me of the beautiful French short by Michel Ocelot, Les Trois Inventeurs, which was produced in 1979.

Papercuts are so beyond my comprehension. I can't even imagine having the patience and attention to make something so intricate and detailed! So impressive and pretty. Here is a lil snippet for you to check out:

You Auto Know...

I love vintage things—you name it I'll collect it. Clothing, handbags, jewelry, kitchenwares, cook books, kid's books, electronics. The list goes on and on. Oddly the one thing I've never gotten into has been vintage cars. Oh don't get me wrong, I totally appreciate them. But for some reason they've never been my "thing". One of my best pals Stephanie is a total car fiend. She and her man have the BEST collection of cars and go to all these amazing car rallies, like the California Melee and the Alpine 500. They're truly the coolest. I have to admit whenever I see her and her cutie cars it does make me yearn for something more than mah simple little VW Jetta. I often think if I were going to get a vintage car, WHICH would I choose?

1. A sassy family vehicle like the 1951 Mercury Wood Paneling Station Wagon?
2. The sprightly and adorable Nash Metropolitan?
3. Go a little bigger and a little more rocker with a 1966 Ford Galaxie 500? (best car name ever)
4. Get funky with the 1965 Dodge Marlin

Decisions, decisions. It's so hard to pick just one. There are so many amazing vintage cars out there.
I'm pleased to report, I think I found thee very best.

Ladies and gentlemen, feast your eyes on the insanely cool 1962 Fiat 600 Jolly

Can you say tres jolie? Oh I think you can! The Fiat Jolly is crazy rare (Aristotle Onassis owned one) and featured wicker seats (yes I said wicker) with the option of a fringed top to "shield its occupants from the Mediterranean sun". How charming can you get? Of course it helps if you live in a sun drenched local and only speak French or Italian while driving it, but man oh man.

I think the pink is pretty heavenly but then I spied this lemon drop yellow Fiat and well...it's kind like sunshine on wheels doncha think?

OK, who calls shotgun??

Flower Child.

When I woke up today the sun was out. Then the man on the radio said it was going to rain today and probably this entire weekend. Well phooey on that, I say. I got dressed and even though I know thunder clouds are in my future, I decided to put a flower in my hair. Why not? Who says you can only wear flowers when it's sunny or you're lounging on a luscious tropical island?? I'm sportin' my rose while I tromp through the grey concrete jungle. Rain, I dare ya to bring me down.

+ Max Studio dress
+ Flamenco shoes, Office Shoes via Top Shop
+ Spectacle pendant from the groovy girls at Beckerman
+ Brown and Pink handbag
+ Red, red rose

UPDATE: It started raining. The hair's a little frizzier but I'm still smiling.

Are you ready for ruffles?

Ruffles are interesting. Done wrong, you can end up looking like little bo peep or a contestant in the Little Miss Perfect pageant. But done right, they are a sweet detail that can add an unexpected whimsy. I’m kind of a girly girl, so I couldn’t help but be intrigued by this recent wave of ruffles that appears to be spilling out all over the world lately. Sure you expect to see ruffles on dresses or little girl’s socks…but on shoes or leather handbags? “Well I never!” Hmmm, maybe its time I did.

It's all about the oomph.

It's Friday people and I can't tell you how thrilled I am for the weekend. I thought, in honor of the

approaching weekend, it would be fun to do a couple of posts today that were all about unexpected

little twists. That's kind of the whole spirit behind Strawberry Lemonade—finding beauty in unusual places

or taking something and giving it just a little added oomph to make it that much more special. Stay tuned for more

in a few!

As for the weekend, well I'm thrilled to report that I have no commitments and I plan on on simply

lounging, wandering around and hopefully taking some pictures. Say cheese...
